Formed in 2004 out of what was the Lansvale Racing Team, Tasman Motorsport has taken massive strides as it accelerates its position in the V8 Supercar Championship Series. After being based in Sydney for its inaugural season at the home of the former Lansvale team, Tasman has moved to Melbourne to be based in a purpose-built workshop in close proximity to Harrop Engineering.

The team was first announced in early 2004, running an older model VX Commodore for Kiwi Jason Richards, before a brand new VY Commodore was introduced mid-season. Carrera Cup star Fabian Coulthard joined Richards for the enduros where they finished in the top 10 at Sandown and were on target for a top six at Bathurst before a stone holed their radiator.

Kevin Murphy is the figurehead of the operation, which expanded to two cars for its second season in the category following the signing of former Formula Ford champion Jamie Whincup.

A fourth-place at Shanghai in China by Whincup was an early-season high, but he and Richards went even better at the endurance events, finishing third ar Sandown and second at Bathurst after and enthralling dice with eventual winners Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly.

2006 saw the 2004 Konica Series Champion Andrew Jones join the ranks. The team struggled for consistency but managed to continue with its run of outstanding performances with Jason Richards securing the first win of the teams short history.

Now is the time when the Tiger will roar. In 2007 V8 Superstar Greg Murphy will line up alonside fellow kiwi Jason Richards in the teams assualt towards securing that elusive title. With two brand new VE Commodores to spearhead the campaign 2007 could be the year of the TIGER.
